Baked Tofu

Tofu, a protein powerhouse that builds muscle, protects your heart and lowers cancer risk.

Tofu is a crowd-pleaser for all types of eaters.

Tofu might prevent memory loss and trouble thinking as you get older.

Tofu contains all the essential amino acids your body needs, and is therefore a complete protein.

 

Ingredients

  • 2 packages of extra firm tofu

 

For The Marinade

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/4 cup vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

Directions

1. Place block of tofu on a cutting board and place a paper towel over it and place another cutting board on the top and press as much water out of it as possible.

2. Cut the tofu twice width-wise into planks that are about 1/4 inch thick.

3. Place tofu in a shallow rimmed dish and pour the marinade over it and let soak in the fridge for 2-8 hours.

4. Preheat oven to 450F and grease baking sheet with olive oil and place the tofu pieces.

5. Bake 15 minutes, flip and spoon more marinade on each piece.

6. Bake 10 minutes, flip and spoon more marinade on each piece.

7. Bake 5 more minutes.

8. The edges should look a little burnt and that’s ok.

9. Remove from oven, let sit and cut into desired shapes.

Serve with mashed or baked potatoes and steamed vegetables.
